When we do get out, we usually end up at Three Kings, Hi-Dive/Sputnik, Baggers, El Diablo or, sometimes when I need some Ski Ball or a boost in self- esteem, Barry’s. When we get out of our hood we like to see shows at the Mercury Café, Benders, Illegal Pete’s and Streets of London. When we do have days free we love lounging at home. Both of us can pretty much have fun where ever we are, as long as there are good friends around, and I like me a good BBQ in someone’s back yard too.
Being involved in a fashion market that has live music is something I really enjoy. I listen to music every time I am making something… I feel weird if I don’t.
I started making clothes ten years ago. I learned to sew with my Mom and Grandma. I used to buy vintage clothes and alter them to my body. I realized I could just buy vintage fabric and make my own clothes the way I wanted them. People started paying me to make them stuff, and I was like, “ah hells yes!” I have been doing it ever since. I love to work with vintage fabrics. I am infatuated with polyester, it doesn’t wrinkle or unravel and just generally looks radical!
I sew all of my designs on a really shit machine that I kind of hate, but soon I am going to be the proud owner of a Singer CG590 commercial grade, heavy duty, wicked awesome, bad ass, no jam or needle breaking, 1,100 stitches a minute, sewing through peoples childhood dreams, monster of a sewing machine. It will be great to work on new creations! My latest idea started by sewing on some scraps of fabric on a dress I made one day and it kind of evolved into this great design. It’s like I look at something and think, “What is this dress missing and what can I add that will make it look cooler?” I really don’t know where it comes from. I guess it is just from looking at clothes I love combining the parts I like the most, together. I do have a love for the vintage look, so that shines through my stuff too. I find designing and creating relaxing and it makes me happy to make new things (when I am not on a deadline that is). I really want this to be “what I do” full time so I know I have to keep at it. Any spare time I have, why not make something cool. It makes me happy!”
